HelloFresh is a complete disaster - the main ingredients are always missing, especially in fish dishes and dairy products
In March I started trying HelloFresh. My preference is dishes with fish and vegetables. The dishes are delicious, but I was bitterly disappointed.
Here is my experience:
I've received a box every week for 5 weeks now and not once were all the ingredients included.
1st week (3 dishes ordered):
The delivery came a full day later than announced and was simply left on the doorstep (the doorbell wasn't rung).
The extra cooler bag only contained ice packs - there was a complete lack of fish and meat and anything else that should have been delivered chilled.
Only after a massive complaint did the compensation correspond to the extra costs I pay for it in the supermarket. In fact, I ended up paying more at the supermarket/fish store than the amount of compensation.
2nd week (3 dishes ordered):
Only 2 dishes were delivered.
Instead of the third dish, there was simply a bag for a completely different dish that had not been ordered, but only with the unrefrigerated ingredients. The chilled ingredients were part of the dish I had actually ordered, dairy products were missing. So I was allowed to tinker and buy some of the ingredients here.
Customer service said they would double check my box to make sure something didn't go wrong again.
3rd week (ordered 4 dishes):
Two dishes were delivered complete, the other two were missing the main ingredients (chicken breast and Camembert) as well as other small things that were supposed to be delivered chilled. Here too, the compensation was rather poor. I paid far more for the Camembert in the store alone than I received in compensation. But there was also a lack of chicken meat, so I was allowed to spend a lot of money on top of that.
4th week (6 dishes ordered, 1xfish):
Only two dishes were delivered complete and the ingredients for four dishes were completely missing. There was also no fish among the chilled ingredients.
Instead there were three bags with ingredients for three other dishes. Again the fish was missing and there were meat ingredients in the cooler bag that belonged to two of the dishes that were ordered but not delivered and therefore did not fit the bags. The recipes from the three fake bags included chicken, but there was pork and bacon in the cooler bag.
As I said, six dishes were ordered, five bags were delivered, only two of which had the recipe number that I had ordered, although the yogurt for one of the two dishes was missing. Therefore only one of six dishes was complete.
I received very good compensation for this and customer service promised that the boxes would be checked twice before they went out. So I accepted that unfortunately there was no fish this week and looked forward to week five, for which I ordered fish twice.
5th week: (ordered 4 dishes, 2xfish):
A single dish was delivered complete (not the fish). A second one was missing champions and leeks. However, HelloFresh noticed this themselves and credited me with around 3 euros in compensation. Mushrooms for two people + leeks probably cost more in the store.
The fish for both fish dishes was missing again.
Compensation 2x2.99 euros, which for 4 fresh fish fillets is not even close to what I pay in the fish shop. Apart from that, the nearest fish shop isn't just around the corner and getting fish takes another hour of my valuable time.
I asked customer service about escalation, but customer service was helpless. He promised me again that my box would be checked twice, which apparently doesn't work. There would be no escalation level. So my only option is to go public and write to the management by post.
